Ceramics 1 & 2

Ceramics 1- Students will construct clay pots and forms using both hand building and wheel forming methods. Glazing and decorating of the clay forms is also covered. Special emphasis is placed on individual creativity.

Ceramics 2- The advanced student will be able to choose and specialize in either hand building clay forms or using the potter's wheel to construct clay pots.

Ceramics 3- Continued specialization in either hand building or wheel throwing will be the basis of this class. Individual direction and development is emphasized.

Ceramics 4- The focus of this advanced course is personal expression. Students will continue developing their own style as well as exploring sophisticated ceramic techniques. Students will have a portfolio of their work when the course is completed.

CCA Ceramics 1- Introduces traditional and contemporary ceramic forms and processes including hand building and throwing on the potter's wheel.

CCA Ceramics 2- A continuation of ARTX161, this course emphasizes skill, technique and form.

Color theory and painting techniques

Painting 1- 4

Painting 1- In this course, students study color theory, mix paints, and experiment with various brush and palette knife techniques.

Painting 2- Students are encouraged to work with their own artistic ideas and to study techniques used by artists from other times and places.

Painting 3- Students in this course are expected to work on development of an individual style and will continue exploration of more sophisticated painting techniques. Opportunities are presented for working independently.

Painting 4- The focus of this advanced course is personal expression. Students will continue developing their own style as well as exploring sophisticated painting techniques. Students will have a portfolio of their work when the course is completed.

Creating Contemporary designs

Jewelry 1 & 2

Jewelry 1- Designing, fabricating, and casting of jewelry pieces with a variety of materials provide the core for this course. Emphasis is on basic techniques: i.e., resin casting, silver soldering, and metal piercing using both precious and non-precious materials.

Jewelry 2-Students construct and cast a variety of jewelry using contemporary designs, materials, and techniques. More complicated processes, such as soldering and stone setting are introduced with emphasis on increasing skills and design levels.

A fee will be required for supplies. Prerequisite: Jewelry 1.

Shading, contour and perspective

Drawing 1-4

Drawing 1- In this course, students work with a variety of drawing media and fundamental drawing techniques: value (shading), contour (continuous line), perspective (three-dimensional figure), and gesture. Drawing is presented both as a tool that can be used in other art courses and as an art form in itself.

Drawing 2- At this level, students work with more involved drawing problems and techniques. Advanced skills in drawing, use of new materials, and presentation of works are all emphasized.

Drawing 3- Students in this course will work on developing an individual style through personal expression and will explore more sophisticated drawing techniques. Opportunities are presented for working independently.
