World Language studies prepare students to see the world through a global lens and to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures.
At Gateway High School, we value curiosity about the world. We offer two languages-French and Spanish-to students in grades 9-12. Students develop listening comprehension, reading, speaking, and writing skills in all levels, novice through advanced.
World Language instruction goes beyond teaching language and culture. Here, we provide a foundation of essential life skills which include collaborative work, critical thinking, and effective public speaking. Moreover, we understand the importance of supportive human interaction in language acquisition, which is at the core of everything we do.
Students also have the opportunity to earn the Seal of Biliteracy upon graduation. This credential honors students who have demonstrated that they can speak, read, listen, and write in two or more languages at a high level of proficiency. This award recognizes students’ biliteracy skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices.
