Teacher
English and Humanities
I love exploring new topics and ideas with students and giving students opportunities to learn about themselves and the world around them in literature and their own writing.
About Me
I am originally from Iowa, and spent most of my life in Newton. I played basketball and golf for the Newton Cardinals and graduated in 2009. After high school, I attended the University of Northern Iowa for my bachelor's degree in English Education. I moved to Denver for the first time in 2013, and taught at Colorado Connections Academy for 2 years. I left Connections to work on my master's degree in East Asian Studies, focusing on Japanese Language and Literature, and graduated from the University of Kansas in 2019. While at KU, I taught classes as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and studied in Japan for a term. After graduating, I taught GED classes at Kansas City Kansas Community College for a year before taking a job as an English teacher at Aurora West College Preparatory Academy. I'm excited to start my next teaching chapter at Gateway High School! In my free time, I love to go hiking with my wife and our dog Eire, watch my favorite sports teams (the most important being the Chiefs, the Cubs, the Panthers, the Cyclones, the Jayhawks and Arsenal FC), and read. I also write in my spare time, and dabble in Japanese translations.
