About Us
New this year, the Magazine Club is an online, quarterly journal of arts, culture and ideas. It's a place for students who enjoy writing, music, photography and making videos to publish their work. We welcome poetry, short fiction, essays, journalism (profiles, reviews) and more. The club meets Tuesday afternoons in Room 312.
Benefits of Participating
The as-yet-untitled magazine club (referred to here as “the magazine”) will be an opportunity for Gateway High School students to express their creativity and pursue their cultural interests by contributing to the publication of a literary journal. The magazine will promote school culture. It will enable students to see themselves reflected positively in a published medium. And it will help to develop the literacy skills of Gateway students. The magazine will be published once per school quarter in an online format using Google Sites. The magazine will be produced, edited and published by Gateway students with guidance from its faculty sponsors: Scott Aiges (Social Studies) and William Svoboda (English Language Arts). The leadership structure will be determined by nominations and volunteers from the club members. Students will assume the roles of assignment editors, copy editors, photo editors, layout/design editors, content contributors and others as needed. The magazine will publish a wide range of content produced by our students, including but not limited to: Poetry Short fiction Essays Journalism (profiles of students who do interesting things in the arts, sports, academics, etc., or other articles on the cultural life at Gateway) Cultural criticism (reviews of music, movies, plays, etc.) Photo essays Short videos Members of the club will be solicited through club fairs, posters around the school, recommendations from staff and word-of-mouth. The magazine club will meet weekly in Mr. Aiges and/or Mr. Svoboda’s rooms. Once published, the magazine will encourage readership through social media and by posting QR code links to the publication around the Gateway campus. Thank you for your support of the Gateway High School quarterly literary magazine club.
