I love working at Gateway High School because it feels like home to me. I interned here, student taught here, and I was lucky enough to get hired here. I was drawn to GHS because of the diversity the students bring in and out of the classroom. I learn and grow from my student everyday. Because of this, teaching at GHS is a unique experience and it keeps me coming back.
I am a first-generation high school and college graduate. My parents immigrated from Mexico before I was born, and I was lucky enough to been born and raised in the beautiful state of Colorado. My husband is from El Salvador and graduated high school from APS. Being bilingual is extremely important to our family, and we continuously work towards keeping our girls bilingual.
I became an English teacher because I love to read. I fell in love with reading when I was in middle school, and I have been an avid reader ever since. I believe reading not only shows you the past, but it can show you cultures and places you might not otherwise know. I now read every single day without fail. At first, it was to finish college work, and then it became a habit. If I skip a day, I feel like I cheated.
