I enjoy working at Gateway because I hope I am making an impact on students who are in the community that I’ve always lived in and love.
My name is Molly Barrett and I am a Family and Consumers Sciences teacher in Aurora, Colorado. I am a Colorado native, as we have been here for seven generations, which I find quite unusual anymore! I am a wife, and mother of six children ages 9-17. Before becoming a teacher, my husband and I owned a successful Awards and Engraving business, which after twenty years, we sold last year, leading me to teach some of those textile skills in the high school nearest our business location. Prior to that, I was in the hospitality field and was the General Manager of some limited-service hotels as my Bachelor’s degree is in Hospitality Management. I really loved the hotel business but didn’t find it conducive to family life being a 24 hour 7 day a week operation. I have been a volunteer with our county human services department as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children, which led my husband and I to become foster and adoptive parents, which is why we have quite a few children, at least for city dwellers! In my free time, I like to read biographies, dance, sew, and sing in my church choir.
