“Young people don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice. They need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.” – Meghan Markle
I was born and raised just north of Atlanta, Georgia. I decided I wanted to experience a different part of the country so I attended college in New England. In 2016, I moved to Denver and have been teaching in public schools ever since.
As a kid, I struggled to learn how to read and never enjoyed school. I felt frustrated that it always seemed like there was only one right answer. I decided to become a teacher because I wanted to join other educators who were challenging the idea that there is only one way to teach and one way to learn. I strongly believe that students should have a voice in their education and that learning should fuel us all with passion and curiosity for the world around us. Outside of the classroom I enjoy reading, playing with my dog, Rue, and cat, Mellie, and spending quality time with friends and family.
