Welcome Back Letter 2024

Dear Gateway Students, Parents, and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year at Gateway High School! Whether you are joining us for the first time or are a returning member of our community, we are excited to make this your best year yet.

Below, you will find important dates, events, and updates to ensure a smooth start to the school year. Please take the time to read through this information carefully.

Important Events/Dates:

Student Check-In: All students must complete the check-in process before the school year begins. Failure to check in may result in a delayed start and potential changes to your course selections. Please attend one of the following sessions

  • Check-In Date 1: Wednesday, 7/31 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Check-In Date 2: Thursday, 8/1 from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Check-In Date 3: Saturday, 8/3 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Aurora Public Schools’ Annual Back to School Kickoff!

  • Time: 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Location: Town Center at Aurora Join us for a free event to welcome students and families back to school. Free backpacks and school supplies will be provided to APS students. You can meet school staff and explore the many resources available.
  • Date: Saturday, August 3

Back-to-School Night (Open House):

Date: Monday, August 5th

Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Come visit Gateway, explore classrooms, meet teachers, and learn about the academic expectations for the year. Opportunities to join student organizations and sports teams will also be available.

 

Freshmen First Day of School

  • Date: Wednesday, August 7
  • Time: 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM This day is dedicated to our freshmen, allowing them to get acquainted with the school, meet their teachers, and participate in special sessions. Attendance is mandatory.

Traditional First Day of School for All Grades 9-12 (Orange Day)

  • Date: Thursday, August 8
  • Time: 8:00 AM - 3:20 PM This will be a regular school day for all students, with periods 1-4 meeting.

 

Important Information:

Student IDs: All students will receive a school ID at Check-In. IDs must be carried at all times and are required for school entry, early dismissal, and using passes throughout the day.

Cell Phones: A new cell phone policy will be in place this year. Cell phones are not allowed in classrooms unless permitted by the teacher for educational purposes. One warning will be given before phones are confiscated. Details will be provided prior to the start of school and at Check-In.

Closed Campus/Principal’s Pass: Gateway is a closed campus, and students cannot leave during the school day without parental consent. All students must remain on campus during lunch. Juniors and seniors on track for graduation may be granted a Principal’s Pass to leave campus for lunch after the third week of school. The pass is valid for the first semester and will be reevaluated for the second semester.

Parking: Students parking on campus must register their vehicle and obtain a parking permit for $20 per year. All drivers must follow traffic laws and school rules. Parking is a privilege and may be revoked if rules are not followed.

Chromebook Expectations: Each student will be issued a Chromebook and charger. Chromebooks should be brought to school fully charged every day. Students are financially responsible for any loss or damage to the Chromebook or charger. Further information will be provided at Check-In, Back to School Night, and during Student Expectation Assemblies.
