Sr Brendon Hutchinson Places 6th in DECA Competition

500 students from around the state were in Beaver Creek for the Vail Invitational hosted by Valor Christian. This was Pickens Technical College first appearance at this event. Pickens was recognized for donating the most money per student during the miracle minute for the DECA 10/10/10 initiative.
Additionally, Gateway Senior Brendon Hutchinson placed 6th over all in Retail Services Management. This is a major accomplishment for a 1st year DECA member as he was competing against 19 students. He also received a 100% on one of his role plays and a personal best on his DECA Cluster Exam.
Brendon is looking forward to the district competition and hopes to qualify for the state event held at the Broadmoor in February. Pickens will have a total of 15 students competing at the district event in December, made up of 4 students from Gateway & Vista Peak, 3 from Aurora Central, 2 Williams Smith, 1 from Rangeview and 1 homeschool student. The students have set a lofty goal of qualifying 50% of the chapter for the state competition.
